How to solve this?.. The ratio of the angle measures in a quadrilateral is 1 : 4 : 5 : 6. Find the measure of the largest angle.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do all the angles have to add up to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know, that's all my problem says.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know quad means 4

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the problem assumes you know some basic properties of a quadralateral .... such as the sum of the angles of a quad add up to _____

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you recall the measure of an angle in a square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think they add up to 360

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct :) so lets scale this ratio by some value that will get us to some normal angles .... ill use the variable x we know that 1x + 4x+ 5x+ 6x = 360 or simply: x(1+4+5+6) = 360 can you solve for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, jus give me a min :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 22.5?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, and that will help us out to find the biggest angle :) if you agree that 6x has to be the biggest angle, what is 6(22.5)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, then it would be -- 135

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yay!! that would be correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeahh!!!! thanks a hole lot :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck ;)
