elimination method- add or subtract the 2 equations from each other in order to isolate a variable, in this case, either x^2 or y^2 once you've isolated a variable, just solve for x and/ or y

also remember that for \[x^2=n\] \[x=\pm \sqrt{n}\]

thank you! I think when i was doing this problem the fist time I had completely confused myself. I got y=x-1 them plugged that in..and it all went to crap after that.
