What is the difference between a recursive rule and an iterative rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, I think this is a recursive rule:\[a _{n}=a _{n-1}+4\] For the sequence 50, 54, 58, 62, 66,... Because I can only find the next term of a sequence, I can't find, say, the 20th term. I need to find the iterative rule for that...

From what I understand, recursion is a type of iterative process

Hmmm, I'm confused because in my course, they ask me to list both the recursive and the iterative rule, I'm not sure if that means they're asking for just one rule or two different rules.

If its recursive, by definition it is iterative! :)

Okay! Thank you!
