Depends what you mean by calculate every equation. Most calculators have only so much processing ability.

More like a calculator device, and not software based. Wolfram Alpha is based on the software suite, Mathematica, and has a structured system for queries and factual data. I would think that Wolfram Alpha, although it has mathematical computation, is more like a robotic encyclopedia.
