What is the equation of the line that passes through the points (-2, 3) and (2, 7)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first find the slope of the line connecting those two points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry. Don't know that right now. :(

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

To find the slope of two points,you use the formula: \[m = \frac{ y _{2}- y _{1} }{ x _{2} - x _{1} }\]

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

You just get the ys and x's from your two points: label on set of coordinated (x1, y1) and the other (x2, y2) and just plug it in to find the slope of the line that passes through those two points.

OpenStudy (moonlitfate):

So the slope of a line that passes through the points through (-2, 3) -> (x1, y1) and (2, 7) -> (x2, y2): \[m = \frac{ 7 - 3}{ 2- (-2) } = \frac{ 4 }{ 4 } = 1\]
