A 1-oz mouse takes about 16 times as many breaths as does a 3-ton elephant. If the two animals take a combined total of 170 breaths per minute, how many breaths does each take during that time period?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Suppose elephant takes x amount of breaths, then mouse takes 3x so x + 3x = 170 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry x + 16x = 170

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah sorry my head is mixed up cause Im working on a packet and Im moving back and forth between different lessons.. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

both x combine cause theyre like terms no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):
