OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):
oye, cos(2pi/3) kya hota hai? o.O
OpenStudy (yrelhan4):
and when you get the solution, post it here...
cos(a+b) = cos(a)cos(b)-sin(a)sin(b)
cos(x+π/3) = cos(x)cos(π/3)-sin(x)sin(π/3) = [cos(x)/2]-[sqrt(3)sin(x)/2] = m-n
cos(x-π/3) = cos(x)cos(-π/3)-sin(x)sin(-π/3) = [cos(x)/2]+[sqrt(3)sin(x)/2] = m+n
(m-n)² = m²+2mn+n²
(m+n)² = m²-2mn+n²
(m+n)²+(m-n)² = 2(m²+n²)
So, you have
cos²(x)+2[(cos²(x)/4)+(3sin²(x)/4)] = 3/2
cos²(x)+cos²(x)/2+(3/2)sin²(x) = 3/2
cos²(x)+sin²(x)+cos²(x)/2+sin²(x)/2 = 3/2
1+(1/2)(cos²(x)+sin²(x)) = 3/2
1+(1/2)(1) = 3/2
3/2 = 3/2 check.
OpenStudy (dls):
-1/2 why
OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):
cos(2pi/3) = -1/2 and not -sqrt3 /2
