That's called a "Trophic Pyramid." The organisms on each level eat the organisms on the level right below it. And the organisms on the very bottom level are called AUTOTROPHS. What that means is that they make their own food. Whenever an organism eats another organism, it gets about 10% of the energy that the consumed organism had. For example, if a shark eats an octopus, the shark gets 10% of the energy that the octopus had. ~~~~~~~~~~ Take a look at the BOTTOM level, of the pyramid. There are a lot more organisms there, than at the top. You see? That's because there is more energy, toward the bottom of the pyramid. There's enough energy there, in order to support a larger number of organisms.
