where on the paper do you expect larger molecules to be located in the final chromatogram? explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you explain the question a bit better?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My assumption would be that the larger molecules would be closer to where they started than the smaller molecules, but that is an uninformed guess.

so in a chromatagraphy lab you put ink dots on a peice of paper and than dip the paper in water and see where it bleeds to. so i think the question is asking if you dip the ink dots in paper where would you expect the larger molecules to be located like either closer to the bottom where the water touched it or the top furthest away fromt he water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the smaller molecules are better at moving through the paper than the larger molecules, so the larger molecules would be furthest away from the water.

yaaa what peter says is right
