Why is evolution a multigenerational, multiindividual process? What can evolution not take place in the lifetime of one individual?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is happening at individual level. but it pass to generation only if the change got and survival mechanism to the organism or its adaptation anyway. other changes will discard by natural selection. Normally sudden changes in individual level have no such advantages (it should be heritable ) so will not be in selection
