Which of the following best describes the ordered pairs listed below? Dont answer it for me just tell me how to tell if it's a function or relation or both or neither 2, -2), (0, -4), (4, -8), (8, -12) A. both a relation and a function B. function only C. relation only D. neither a relation nor a function
A function is a (x,y) value. In order to be a function the "x" value CAN'T repeat, but it doesn't matter if the "y" value repeats
For example: (4,5) , (6,1) , (2,7). That's a function because the "x" value does not repeat. The "x" value is, the first number. In this case it's 4,6,2
A relation is a set of numbers, or pairs. There is nothing special about the numbers that are in a relation. its just a set of ordered pairs. {} is the symbol for "Set". An example: {(0,1) , (55,22) , (3, -50)}
Oh and the numbers always have to be in parenthesis!!! Like these: (9,0) , (3,1) This would not be considered: 5,6 , 4,2)
