OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(\frac{ x ^{7} }{ y ^{9} } ) ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That is not really a division, problem, sweetheart. It is raising a power to a power. When you do that you use this property: \[(a^m)^n=a ^{mn}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Which says, if you are raising to a power, multiply the exponents.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 * 9 ? or 7 * 2?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So \[(\frac{x^7}{y^9})^2= \frac{x ^{7\times 2}}{y ^{9\times 2}}=\frac{x ^{14}}{y ^{18}}\]

thank you :)
