A transformer reduces or increases the voltage of a circuit. A transformer also transforms from a vehicle to a robot, and vice versa.

In addition to stepping up or stepping down voltage or current, the transformer can and does act as an "impedance matching" device allowing transfer of power from source to load. Transformer do not step up power.
