bio ques..please help : :explain why species diversity is positively correlated with ecosystem stability, your answer should make reference to resistance and resilience of communities in the ecosystem. [5]
I was thinking that it is related to the dynamic equilibrium of the system
and how it relates to the removal of species diversity
hellllllppppp
Yeah, I CAN see how Dynamic Equilibrium could relate to species diversity. The more diversity that there is, the more likely that the overall population of the area will remain steady, regardless of environmental changes, such as season. Here, take a look at this picture: http://www.nature.com/scitable/content/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/17064077/f1_cleland_ksm.jpg ALL of the circles represent organisms. And in a diverse, ideal ecosystem, the number of circles remains the same, no matter what the change in temperature. The entire TOP ROW shows us a DIVERSE and STABLE ecosystem. No matter what the temperature, there is ALWAYS about the same number of organisms. ~~~~~~~~ Your idea of Dynamic Equilibrium DOES play a part, here. As the temperature changes, the number of GREEN organisms and BLUE organisms grow and shrink. But they all do this OPPOSITE to one another. Like... if the number of GREEN organisms LOWERS, the number of BLUE ones will GROW.
thank you very much
