I'm in the process of writing a novel, but I can't seem to focus on it. What is the best way to concentrate? Also, what would be a good name for a tribal, down-to-earth girl?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eat something listen to music hum a song what inspired you to write a novel?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@naderwilli : Thanks~ Although I've tried all of those things already. Eating something keeps me from typing, listening to music distracts me, humming a song distracts me as well... And I've always been into writing since I was a little girl~ Plus, I like to draw, so now I can write novels about the characters and scenes I draw.

ok that is cool i have to go bowling now bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well what usualy helps with this is just not to think about it for a day or 2 to get your mind off it, and then aftor that it should be easer to concentrate ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@stabar : Oh... Thanks! That might help. I'll give it a whirl!

I personally would go back to whatever inspires you. If you just drabble a little on the subject (it can be anything, realistic, crazy, whatever), it will really help you as far as inspiration. Since you're an artist, why don't you try to illustrate your next event in your story instead of writing it down? This way, you can immediately capture the emotions and actions and later use words to communicate them.

@geneticrockhopper247 : Thank you. I'll try doing this. :)

Good luck! It's been ten months. Are you anywhere near finished? If so when it gets published would you post the title and maybe a link to where to buy it or somehting? I'd love to read it. I'm writing one, too and am having the very same problem you had. What I do is listen to music. Cheesy as it may sound I love listening to Disney movie music while I write. Songs like "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (my fave), "Once Upon A December", "God Help the Outcasts", "Kiss De Girl", "Colors of the Wind", "Mother Knows Best", and "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo", I'll Make a Man Out of You", and "I Won't Say I'm in Love" are all extremely inspiring for some reason.

Go somewhere peaceful and make a schedule if you have to. I have problems concentrating and it helps to also get into the novel. Like put your mind and soul as if you were a character. Be the story.

@mysticghost has good advice. I wrote my memoir by finding a quiet place and generally writing at a specific time, adding to it at other times, too, as the impulse came.
