Can someone walk me through this question? A box has a volume geven by y³+y²-56y. Whats the demensions of the box? Use Factoring.

First factor out a y, because that is a common factor of all three terms: y(y²+y-56) Then , you can factor the part between the brackets like this: y(y ....)(y ....) Now you have to find the numbers that go on the dots; call them a and b for now. a+b=1 (because there is 1*y as middle term) a*b=-56. Can you think of what numbers these have to be?
