I would say that most people live in cities with reduced visibility due to lights and possibly pollution, taller buildings, whereas more rural areas do have a better chance.
Telescopes are a big thing that help over the past for objects in space also space exploration with high-tech video and camera capabilities help with clearer understanding of what's out there
