I don't know if this is relevant to physics, but can someone explain the arguments behind the theory that says that we are living into a simulated universe ?

Simulation-->the act of imitating the behavior of some situation or some process by means of something suitably analogous. 
now i am not 100% sure but as far as my knowledge is concerned i think it is believed that there are massive number of universes and all function the same way and our universe is the simulation of one of those.
