factor fully: a^2 + 2ab + b^2 -1

hartnn (hartnn):

hello. do you know the standard relation for a^2 + 2ab + b^2 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(a +b+1 )(a+b-1) i believe that should be right. In this you would have to match up signs and numbers in order to get them to cancel out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got (a+b) squared - 1 but that wasn't fully simplified?

hartnn (hartnn):

you had to use \(x^2-y^2=(x+y)(x-y)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

hartnn (hartnn):

welcome ^_^
