solve system of equation: x+y=-1 y-z=4 2x+y+5z=-38

OpenStudy (cyber405):

You can use y-4=z instead of z in the third equation... Do you know rest of the solution...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug it into your calculator!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 13,-14, and 10 or -10 and something still not adding up right

OpenStudy (cyber405):

What's the problem...?

OpenStudy (cyber405):

y - z = 4 ---> z = y - 4 x + y = -1 ---> x = -y-1 then plug these into third one... 2x + y + 5z = -38 ----> 2(-y-1) + y + 5(y-4) = -38 .... -2y-2+y+5y-20=-38 ----> 4y=16 y=... then plug y in other equations to find x and z...
