f(x)=7-8x polynomial? if so degree and type?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

do you think it's a polynomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why is that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the negative?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

well 7 - 8x is the same as -8x + 7

OpenStudy (compassionate):

negative number do not matter. This is a binomial thus, it has TWO terms.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you had a negative exponent, then it wouldn't be a polynomial but it's perfectly valid to have a negative coefficient and it still be a polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is a poly

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that is correct, it is a polynomial

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Compassionate gave you the type, what is the degree?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Remember, the degree = the highest exponent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with degree of 1?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good
