A tree casts a shadow of 15ft. The angle of elevation from the tip of the shadow to the top of the tree is 70 degrees. To the nearest foot, what is the height of the tree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix the answer I got for this was 41, I don't think that's right but I'm not sure!

Directrix (directrix):

My yellow ping notification or whatever does not work. It lights up here but I don't get a message that I have been called.

Directrix (directrix):

tan 70 = x/15 where x is the height of the tree

Directrix (directrix):

41.21 ish feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 2.74747741945462228

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After doing tan 70... Lol I'm confused now :/

Directrix (directrix):

This is what you wrote above: the answer I got for this was 41

Directrix (directrix):

For tangent, yes. I cranked out the height of the tree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer I have now is right?

Directrix (directrix):

2.74747741945462228 = x/15

Directrix (directrix):

The answer I got for this was 41, you said. That is what I got, too. The height of the tree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok! :D thank you!

Directrix (directrix):

Next problem. :)
