the area of the triangle below is 60 yards. What is the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i draw on here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Under where u type there should be thing it says draw... ight?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1363567900003:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just drew it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm i may be able to help... just maybe... im only in 7th grade though so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe you can try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm ok so to find the area im pretty sure you do base*height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah and it says the area of the triangle is 60 yards what is x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you may want to try substitution for that... find something that makes sense like if sense you have 2 things on the triangly and one of them is x-2 and the other just says x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

triangle*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you woukd have to think well if im finding 60 yards for the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug in a number for the bottom equation and try it with the x-2 equation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so lets just try 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20-2 is 18 and 18*20 is 360

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we need to go way lower

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets try 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh oka

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10-2 is 8 and 8*10 is 80

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a lil lower
