@higherlearning Linear is an equation having a degree 1. Degree is the highest power of the variable. like x + 5 , 25x and so on. The above equation is not cubic as its' degree is 1 not 3 . Also, \(\large{\color{blue}{\mathbb{WELCOME}} \space \color{red}{\textbf{TO}} \space \color{orange}{\mathbb{OpenStudy}}}\)

so you can solve these on your own: A polynomial is an equation of the form\[f(x)=a+ax+cx^{2}+....+\] you determine the degree by looking at the highest \[x^2\] term. This will tell you if it is linear, cubic, quadratic etc.
