What was the initial response of the US to the German campaign against European Jews?

At first we didn't much care because we didn't have pictures or text that was fully describing in detail everything that was happening, but once we had a clearer picture most people considered it an atrocity, though you still had people like Ford who thought it was a good thing to eradicate the Jewish and companies like IBM who assisted Germany by selling them what was essentially a low tech computer (Card-punching machines used to calculate numbers. In Germany's case, how many prisoners they held/killed a day.)
