your poem should be a description of something.(it's not the kind of poem that tells a story.) the 'something' could be a tree, a dog, a sunset, or a classroom. it could be about a person you know. it could be about your toothbrush! you can write a descriptive poem about anything. the key is to describe it in a way that's interesting - that means using images and even feelings to bring it to life.

so instead of saying 'my toothbrush is blue and is sitting on the bathroom counter' you might say:

hard plastic blue thrown aside
making a small puddle on the
pepto-bismal pink counter,
bristle whiskers waiting for the
clean swish of paste,
cool rinse of rushing water
the chance to do it's
rhumba dance
across teeth and gums
etc. etc. etc.

this'brushing teeth' example is a bit silly. but i wrote it to show that you can write about anything - as long as you use interesting descriptive language. you could talk about what your subject looks like, feels like, tastes like. you could talk about what color or temperature or texture, etc.

how about if you pick and object and give it a try. ten lines is not that long. i think you could do it pretty quickly. post it if you want some feedback. (you can't use tge toothbrush one, unless you write your own! ;)
