OpenStudy (zehanz):

I am a little hesitant to bring this up, but... After I moved from SmartScore 75 to 76, I earned almost 50 medals, far more than between 75 and 76. Is there a new method of calculating this score or is it something else?

OpenStudy (blues):

Medals are not the only thing that goes into calculating SmartScore. It also considers indicators of quality of interaction - such as duration during which you tutored the person, length of response, etc. And with respect to medals, medals from different users are weighted differently. For example, medals from the asker of the question, or from established tutors, or moderators are worth more than medals from other people. And the last thing about smart score is that it is relative rather than absolute - so while one component of how you compare to other users is you, another component is the other users. If you are inactive on the site, while they are active, your SmartScore will actually decrease.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

The various maintenance and updates could result from new codes altering the process to achieve higher SMARTSCORES. Also, the higher you are on the scale, the more requirements is need to move up to the next level.
