How many students did not participate in spring sports and fall sports?

percent means per hundred members.
If we have a 100 students, then 35% becomes 35*100/100 = 35;
similarly for 1800 students 35% becomes 35*1800/100 = 630 members participate in spring sports
Here we have 630 students participated in Spring Sports
number of students participating in fall sports are 40*630/100 = 252
these 252 students come under spring sports as they are playing that also.
So the number of students not playing any games are 1800 - 630 =1170
