um you could explain how fluorescence works with a few lasers (laser pointers) of different colours (energies) and bunch of fluorescent markers and some glasses. or, you could precipitate a "carbon tower" out of some sugar (this requires acid though). or, you could talk about cosmic radiation using a cheap geiger counter (they cost about $10 on ebay). what kind of science interests you?
