Determine whether the expression is a monomial. 18x over y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 18x }{ y }\]

mathslover (mathslover):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mono means just one term...so what is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's a monomial cause it has one term

mathslover (mathslover):

Good , you r right @Sky_Pirate .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well he answered his own question lol

mathslover (mathslover):

That is what I appreciate about him. @Best_Mathematician

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Very sorry to say this but a monomial is a constant or a variable or the product of constants and variables. Can't have a variable in the denominator and be a monomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha someone give him best response plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it were just the number on top and y or x in the bottom it wouldn't be monomial

mathslover (mathslover):

Yes... @Mertsj is right

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Cannot have a variable in the denominator and be a monomial
