ally bought 3 hamburgers and 2 drinks for $10.45. Jason bought 4 hamburgers and 3 drinks for $14.30. How much would 1 hamburger and 1 drink cost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you are supposed to solve \[3x+2y=10.45\]\[4x+3y=14.30\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the first equation by 3, the second one by \(-2\) then add them together. the \(y\) term will drop out (add to zero) and you can solve for \(x\)

i hate decimals, so i would cheat http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=3x%2B2y%3D10.45%2C4x%2B3y%3D14.30
