Given that triangle PQR is similar to triangle PST, find the scale factor and the coordinates of S. (Hint: The scale factor is the multiplier used to change the larger triangle to the smaller one.)

have an image?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

easiest way i can think about these problems is to set it up like this \[\frac{ 24 }{ 27 }=\frac{ x }{ 9 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these are your knows and unknown. so setting them equal to eachother will give you a simple equation to solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but thats not the answers lol :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the actual point on the axis is going to be (8,0) and we know that for the long side, stretching up the y axis, we can say that 27 is 3 times 9 so the answer is the third one, showing that the smaller triangle is 1/3 the size of the larger one and that the point on the axis for the point s is located at (8,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 1/3; (8, 0) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks {:

no worries :)
