1. Which of the following is true? (1 point)Plants have adaptations that minimize light absorption. Plants require less water on sunny days. Most plants get the water they need from the soil. Plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and do not use oxygen.<----
@jhonyy9 @radar @Agent_Sniffles @ghazi
Plants actually do use oxygen, even though they also produce it.
So @InYourHead is this the right answer
can you help with this question 3. Which of the following is the most important process specific to land-dwelling plants? (1 point)production of photosynthetic pigments conservation of water exchange of gas presence of cell walls
Your answer for #1 wasn't the right answer, no.
then what is it?
The choice that you picked says that plants "do not use oxygen." And that's not true, because plants DO use oxygen.
is it A.
Have you read A?
You know, plants need sunlight, in order to stay alive. To MINIMIZE would mean to REDUCE.
yes I have but none of the others sound right... It could also be c
I dont know all of these sound wrong to me
Well, we know that plants need MORE water, on sunny days. So the second choice isn't true either.
Why does C sound wrong to you/
Because it doesnt seem that plants can get everything they need from the soil
My dear, plants get almost everything that they need from the soil. Water and nutrients included.
oh ok
The choice tells us that "most plants get the water that they need from the soil." It's not talking about EVERYTHING. Just water. You see? And it's true.
what about this one 3. Which of the following is the most important process specific to land-dwelling plants? (1 point)production of photosynthetic pigments conservation of water exchange of gas presence of cell walls
is it B?
There are two kinds of plants we can think of: 1. Land plants 2. Aquatic plants. And yes, it is B. Land plants don't live in the water. So, in order to stay alive, they need to learn how to conserve (save) water.
and this one What would have most likely occurred if plants had not begun to live on land? Animals also would not live on land. There would be no green algae in the oceans. Animals would not undergo cellular respiration. There would be no carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
is it D.
Plants use carbon dioxide, in order to make oxygen. If there were no plants, there would be a LOT of carbon dioxide, because nothing would be using it.
B then?
Honestly though, I have to think about this question.
Why do you think it's B?
I have no idea!
You're just guessing one by one?
no.. I thought that was next logical guess
lol okay...what was your logic?
Honestly, I know next to nothing about algae, but I'm pretty sure algae has nothing to do with this question. We're talking about land plants here, not ocean plants.
Because plants come from the algae in the ocean?
They do?
I thought they came from seeds.
lol! I dont know!!
So now we believe it's either A or C.
I don't think A is true. Because there ARE plenty of animals that don't live on land, as it is today. ~~~~~~~~ I'm leaning on C. Cellular respiration is where we take food, and break it down, in order to make energy. One of the steps of cellular respiration is called Glycolysis. It breaks down sugars, in order to get energy. ~~~~~~~~~~ Here's the thing: without land plants, there would be a lot less oxygen in the world. But glycolysis can still happen, without oxygen. We would just get a lot less energy from it. We would call that "fermentation."
oh I see that makes sense
Makes sense to me too. I just can't be 100% sure that it's the right answer. I wish I could.
Last one What is a basic difference between a sporophyte and a gametophyte? A sporophyte is a reproductive structure while a gametophyte is not. A sporophyte undergoes sexual reproduction while a gametophyte undergoes asexual reproduction. A sporophyte is part of the diploid phase while a gametophyte is part of the haploid phase of the plant life cycle. A sporophyte is much smaller than the gametophyte.
Could this be B
I'll tell you this one, because botany was so long ago for me. It's not B, no. (Because the truth is the opposite) It's actually C. Remember this: SPOROPHYTES are DIPLOID. That means that they have the NORMAL amount of chromosomes, in each cell. GAMETOPHYTES are HAPLOID. ` That means that they have HALF the amount of chromosomes, in each cell.
Oh! I think I might be able to remember that!
Yeah it's easy. We just have to repeat it to ourselves. Sporophyte diploid. gametophyte haploid.
Thanks!!
You're welcome.
