Help me divide/simplify this fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the book it says it simplifies to 2 - sq.root 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also typed it in to calc and it gave the same answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you show step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rationalize the numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Kanwar245 Can you show me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please show me the steps thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

when you see 1+ sqrt(3) in the bottom think "multiply by the conjugate" which means multiply by (1- sqrt(3)) you should multiply top and bottom by (1- sqrt(3)) use FOIL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did and somehow I wasn't able to get the answer can you draw on the board?

OpenStudy (phi):

what do you get for (1+sqrt(3))(1- sqrt(3)) ? FOIL means First, outer, inner, last where first means the 1's, outer means the 1 on the left and the -sqrt(3) on the right, and so on
