factor showing steps 25x^2-64y^2 Thanks!

OpenStudy (radar):

this is the difference of two perfect squares. Note that 5x squared is 25x^2 and 8y squared is 64y^2. Does this give you an idea for solving?

OpenStudy (radar):

Hint: a^2 - b^2 factors to: (a + b)(a - b)

25x^2-64y^2 looking at this, I know I will have x and y in my factors. ( x y )( x y ) also, since it is minus, the only way I can get that is if one term is - and the other + ( x - y )( x + y ) now, we need to figure out the coefficients. since it's 25x and 64 y, we need to factor those numbers. 5x5 is 25, and 8x8 is 64. these will be our coefficients. (5x - 8y)(5x + 8y) and that's you're answer. when you multiply it out you'll find that the xy terms cancel leaving you with just your x-term and your y-term
