OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

What do the (1n) and (2n) mean when talking about Gameophytes and Sporophytes?

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

1n means they have a single of n chromosomes, while 2 n means they have n pairs of chromosomes.

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

I don't get it .-.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

well, humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes right? an egg cell would have 1n while a skin cell would have 2n

OpenStudy (poopsiedoodle):

Oh. I guess that kinda makes sense :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1n = haploid 2n = diploid
