A system consists of steam within the confines of a steam engine (boiler, steam pipes, cylinder, and piston). Determine the signs of deltaU, Q, and W in the following steps of the engine's cycle: a. Water in a rigid boiler is heated until it is vaporized. b. Steam is conveyed through steam pipes from the boiler to the cylinder of the engine, where the steam rapidly pushes the piston toward the outside of the cylinder. c. The steam condense to liquid water at constant volume within the cylinder. d. The piston moves into the cylinder, pushing the liquid water out and back into the boiler.
