OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is the supportive framework of the cell and it is an irregular network of tubular double membrane. It continues with the plasma membrane on the outside and nuclear membrane on the inside. It may have a rugged(due to presence of ribosomes-which help in protein synthesis) or smooth appearance.
