How many electrons does calcium have to give up in order to achieve noble-gas electron configuration? A. 5 B. 4 C. 2 D. 3 E. 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the correct answer C ?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

why should it be C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JFraser Calcium is in group 2 of the periodic table, meaning that it has 2 electrons in its (outer) valence shell. So it has to lose those 2 electrons from that to acquire Argon's noble gas structure Ar(2,8,8)

OpenStudy (jfraser):

very good, that is correct

Thank you :)
