Which of the sentences is punctuated correctly? a. “You know,” Steven said, “I’ve never been to the zoo.” b. “You know” Steven said, “I’ve never been to the zoo.” c. “You know,” Steven said, “I’ve never been to the zoo”.

OpenStudy (cccmpt2):

a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A would be closest to being correct although if you dissected it, none of them would be correct.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

Should be the first choice, A.

Keep in mind that in this case, punctuation should always come within the quotes, not outside them, and you can't leave quotations hanging. ("you know" steven said is incorrect, because there is no punctuation within the quotation.)
