The cost of World War 1 slowly led to World War 2 due to the high inflation and the mark of dictatorship taken up by Adolf Hitler.

Also, the war reparations at the end of WWI decided by the Treaty of Versailles were very costly and humiliating to Germany. They impoverished Germany, and basically their only hope of climbing back up from that was through revenge. That's not the only reason by far, but it did help to set the stage for WWII.
