Arrange the following stages in order of their appearance in the life cycle of a star: white dwarf, red giant, and main-sequence star. Explain you answer please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well thats fairly simple.. what stage do you think our sun is in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sun is in its Main Sequence or Mid Life. the next stage is red giant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct!!.. so far so good.. what do you think will happen after the red giant phase of our sun?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depending on its mass it could explode in a super nova collapsing on itself becoming a brown dwarf. a neutron star. or if it has at least 3 solar masses a black hole. i think :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

our son doesnt have that much energy so as to become a Supernova but still it will become it will become dwarf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think is ONE solar mass?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 solar mass = 1.9891 × 1030 kilograms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mass of the Sun is 1.9891 x 1031 kg. So if a star has a solar mass of 5 it has a mass of 1.9891 x 1031 kg x 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea .. when i asked you what do you think happens to sun.. why did you say DEPENDS UPON ITS MASS? :P.. isn't our sun 1 solar mas? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depending on its mass! and yes.
