Iwould just like everyone to read ad know this "Unfortunately, this week I found a new reason to dislike this website as a new and real danger presented itself to me on the site. A female student from a Connection Academy in a differ-ent state was posting biology questions . A random “helper” began interacting with this student. The “helper” continued providing an-swers to this student and eventually even volun-teered to write her portfolio for her. During the course of this interaction, the “helper” was able to gain the student’s trust and get her to post her personal e-mail addr
address, her cell phone number, and eventually, the student even sent this person her Connexus login information which gave the “helper” access to any and all of this student’s personal information. Please, please, please remind students that it is NEVER okay to give out personal information on a website. Even if the person they are inter-acting with seems very helpful, one can never know exactly who they are interacting with in an anonymous setting such as Open Study.
Ip OenStudy I just wantpeople to be carefull there are lot of weird popleout there that will do things like this
Alyssa, thank you for bringing this to our attention. In our Code of Conduct we specifically state that it is against the rules to share or solicit personal information from other users. And we take every opportunity we find to discourage this behaviour, warning and suspending users as appropriate. We do have an email address, contact@openstudy.com, where these concerns can be brought. Also, if you see any attempts to share personal info or give it, you may click the "report abuse" button and a moderator will deal with the situation. I am interested in how you learned of this situation?
M teacher at connections acadey told us the principal of ts girl has already been notified i don't knothis girl though
Thank you. We do everything we can to prevent this from happening, for precisely the safety reasons you describe. We also do our best to liase with Connections Academy, Connexus and FLVS (the bigger online schools) to better integrate their communities and ours. For posts like this that discuss aspects of OpenStudy (rather than biology) we do have an OpenStudy Feedback group, where I encourage you to post your concerns and contributions.
Can I have a link to that
thanks
In interest of not sharing personal info in a public forum, your username could use some re-thinking. Just saying. ;)
I know but it isn't my actual name there for it does not matter
