Why should students have to spend more of what time they have out of school, just to do homework after sitting in classes for 7 hours?

To retain the material learned and to apply that material learned. Otherwise, all the learning and sitting in class would have gone to waste.

some education experts think that if classroom work is managed really well, then a lot less homework would be necessary. especially 'busy-work' . but sometimes homework is a necessary evil. however it's healthy to have a break from all the sitting.
