Quick Question: How does √20 = 2√5 Please Explain I am confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

√20 = √5.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

√4 = 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ ding ding ding

OpenStudy (waheguru):

How does √20 = √5.4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can factor 20 out to equal 2*2*5. The square root of this is 2 times the square root of 5

OpenStudy (waheguru):

Can you show me how this would work if say it was √30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30 factors to 5*2*3 so you cannot change the square root of it.

OpenStudy (waheguru):

√40 does factor to 2*2*10 can you show how it work with this

OpenStudy (waheguru):

Would it be 2√10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly.
