how to explain when water freezes? when water molecules are squeezed together by high pressure and stick together? or they slow down and begin to bond together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When temperature decreases, molecules slow down. With water, when the molecules slow down, it freezes.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

..they slow down and the intermolecular forces between the molecules become more significant, they form a network of hydrogen bonds, a more structured phase, which decreases it's density by increasing the distance between molecules.

Thank you, for your very detailed explanation. I did try to play it very simple.

OpenStudy (dean.shyy):

It is the last choice.
