12 lb 4 oz - 9 lb 11 oz

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

exact same problem as before...convert these to ounces....then subtract ***1 pound = 16 ounces***

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these r the answers 2 lb 9 oz 3 lb 10 oz 2 lb 8 oz

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

how many ounces are in 12 pounds?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

192

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

now add the remaining 4 oz to that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

196

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

so thats 1 part now how many ounces in 9 lbs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

144

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

and add the remaining 11 oz to THAT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

155

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

alright so you have 196 oz....and 155 oz....so subtract them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since one pound is 16 ounces, just multiply the pounds by 16, then solve. (12+4) - (9+11) (12(16)+4) - (9(16)+11) (192+4) - (144+11) 196 - 155 41 oz 16 can go into 41 two times with a remainder of 9. Answer: 2lb 9oz

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

as @PhilipL0904 has shown...step by step
