Estimate graphically the local maximum and local minimum of f(x) = 4x^2 + 3x + 2

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@torobi Could you find f'(x) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Do you know differentiation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ash2326 how do you do it by differentiation?"What do you do after you differentiate it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@torobi I suggest you graph it using an online graphing calculator, I am sure that it would be able to give you all what you need. All the best.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u find f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx

OpenStudy (ash2326):

We can equate it to 0, to get the local max or min. Differentiation gives the slope, for a mx or min, any curve will have the slope 0. \[f'(x)=0\] solve for x, it'll be max or min.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ash2326 yeah, you are right, as the slope of the tangent line would be horizontal which will equal to zero. Thanks!
