We can equate it to 0, to get the local max or min. Differentiation gives the slope, for a mx or min, any curve will have the slope 0. \[f'(x)=0\] solve for x, it'll be max or min.
@ash2326 yeah, you are right, as the slope of the tangent line would be horizontal which will equal to zero. Thanks!
