I am writing a opinion paper on Tim DeChristopher, can anyone tell me some reasons that he should be considered a hero?
Tim DeChristopher has done a lot for the environment as an activist. Basically what he did was this. In 2008 there was this auction for land in Utah, beautiful public land (government owned) that happened to has oil and natural gas beneath it. Oil/Natural Gas people wanted the land, and they were going to buy it at this auction and then extract the resources from it (which would have wreaked havoc on the environment). So Tim D. says "no way!" and protests, but no one listened. So he went to the auction and BID on the land, even though he didn't have the money. He ended up with the winning bid, for 1.8 million dollars. Obviously, when they figured out he had no money, the government got mad. So they sent him to JAIL. Actual jail. Just for trying to help the environment!!! He was in jail for about 4 years (he only JUST got out of jail last October), all because he stood up for what he believed in. That's heroic.
