Which measure of central tendency best describes this data set? 52, 58, 53, 57, 91 A)Mean B)median C)mode D)range

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

median as 91 would be considered an outlier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand how to get mean, median, mode, and range. I just dont realy get what this is asking

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

they are asking which statistic best describes the centre of the data. mean is best when the data is grouped median is best when outliers occur mode is best for categorical data Range is a measure of spread or location.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, I think I understand that

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

if the find the mean... 91 has a significant influence on the mean... the mean without 91 is 55 with 91 it jumps to 62.5 so it has a big effect on the mean.

thank you
